Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at finelinestudiosuk@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  • I have a facial booked, how should I arrive?

Facials at Fine Line Studios are result driven

and may not be the relaxation experience of

a spa. Please arrive where possible without

heavy makeup. You maybe requested to

avoid certain products a few days prior to the

appointment or even to avoid caffeine on the

day. Please follow this recommendation as

this will affect your experience and results.

  • What should I avoid after a facial?

Depending on the type of facial we choose, it

is advisable to avoid putting on makeup

directly after your appointment. Unless it is a

mineral makeup range.

Microneedling:

  • When can I expect to see results after treatment?

This will depend on your cell renewal process, as this slows down as we age. In general it can take up to 4-8 weeks to see any results, however the regeneration process will continue over the following months giving a gradual enhancement.

  • Who cannot have this treatment?

Anyone that has used  Roaccutane (isotretinoin)  in the last 6 months/open wound to the skin/active skin lesions (herpes/ulcers) / radiation treatment within the last year/ pregnant or breastfeeding/ history of keloid scarring or poor wound healing

  • Are there any side effects?

Microneedling is safe, with minimal side effects or risks associated. The skin will be red in appearance for a couple of hours following microneedling treatment, much like moderate sunburn, with some minor bleeding and bruising possible.

  • How many treatments will I need?

This will be dependent on a number of factors including age, area being treated, skin condition and damage. In most cases it is usually a course of either 3 or 6 treatments, generally spaced between 4 and 8 weeks apart. It is recommended a one-off treatment is performed every 6 months to maintain the effects.

Chemical Peeling:

  • How does a peel work?

The peel speeds up your natural skin’s healing process by stimulating the production of collagen and improving elastin fibres- these are what give skin it’s youthful form and shape. It also revitalizes sensitive skin and helps improve the appearance of irritated or inflamed skin.

  • Which is the right peel for me?

There are three different types of peel: superficial, medium and deep peels. These are categorized by the strength of the acid solution used in the peel and how deeply they penetrate the skin

  • Who cannot have this treatment?

Active cold sores, herpes simplex or warts in the area to be treated
• Wounded, sunburned or excessively sensitive skin
• Accutane use within the last year
• History of recent chemotherapy or radiation therapy
• Allergies to aspirin
• Women who are pregnant or actively breastfeeding
• Patients with Vitiligo
• Patients with a history of autoimmune disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, multiple sclerosis etc) or any condition that may weaken their immune system

  • What should be avoided before a peel?

•4 weeks before the peel avoid waxing, electrolysis, deploritory creams, and laser hair removal.
•5 days before the peel discontinue using any prescription topicals such as Retin-A, differin or Tazorac, as well as any products containing retinol, alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA), beta hydroxyl acids (BHA) or benzoyl peroxide.
• Patients who have had any medical cosmetic facial treatments or procedures such as Laser treatments, cosmetic fillers or other surgical procedures should wait until skin sensitivity has completely resolved before receiving a peel.

  • What happens during treatment?

Procedures may vary dependent on the type of chemical peel chosen. Skin is prepped using a medical degreaser to ensure the treated area is free of any oils left on the skin. The chemical agent is then applied and typically remains on the skin for 5-6 minutes. Most patients feel a mild stinging which is temporary and usually subsides after a few minutes. Some peels are designed to self neutralize.

PRP Therapy:

  • When can I expect to see results after treatment?

Most people will need a course of 3 treatments 1 month apart followed by a maintenance session twice a year (this can be increased to every 4 months if needed).

  • Who cannot have this treatment?

People with pathological conditions of: Hepatitis C, Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), any type of blood cancer and Cardiovascular disease that requires taking a blood thinner.

  • Are there any side effects?

Sensitivity, redness and there possibly could be bruising.

  • What happens during treatment?

Hair regrowth and thicker hair   2 – 3 weeks

Facial/ skin rejuvenation 2 – 3 weeks

Carboxytherapy:

  • What is carboxytherapy

Carboxytherapy is the administration of carbon dioxide [CO2] gas for therapeutic purposes below the skin through a thin needle.

  • How Does It Work?

Carbon dioxide is naturally present in our bodies at all times and it is essential to the life processes of both animals and plants. With every breath, we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Plants absorb the carbon dioxide that we exhale and release oxygen back into the atmosphere again.

Scars are believed to be caused, at least in part, due to poor blood flow to the region. By injecting a small amount of carbon dioxide gas into the area, we aim to “trick” the body into increasing the oxygen flow to the area by compelling the red blood cells to pick up all of the excess CO2 that we injected so that it can be carried back to the lungs for elimination from the body with the next exhalation.

  • Are there any side effects?

Sensitivity/ Redness / Bruising

  • Who cannot have this treatment?

Pregnant/ breastfeeding women, any pathologies with cardiovascular /respiratory/renal/ bleeding disorders/ active skin infection/ongoing chemotherapy or active malignancies/epilepsy/uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension

  • Are there any side effects?

Sensitivity, redness and there possibly could be bruising.

PDO Mono Threads:

The purpose of mono threads is skin firming, skin thickening and natural rejuvenation. This results is smoother, healthier skin and improved contour

  • When will I see results?

You will see some results straight away. The threads start to stimulate collagen after 1 month, however optimal results are seen after 3-4 months.

  • Who cannot have this treatment?

If you have a known history of immune dysfunction, a high infection risk or a history of keloid scarring, we do not advise having a treatment.

  • Are there any side effects?

Swelling, redness and bruising is common and may last up to 7 days. This depends on the number of threads that were inserted and location of threads. Rarely, delayed bruising (bruising that occurs after a few days/weeks) may occur.

  • What should I do before booking my appointment?

Firstly it is important to disclose before your

appointment if you are taking any

medications or suffering from anything that

affects your healing.

Some conditions or medication may need a

GP referral or may be advised to stop some

medications or supplements for a few days

prior to your appointment if it is safe to do so

with your GPs advice.

It is also important to let your artist (Selena)

know if you have ever had any permanent

makeup done in the past and send through

clear, unedited photos to be assed before

making a booking.

Lip blush treatments, if you have ever

suffered from a cold sore at any point in your

life, it is advised to take an antiviral 3 days

before and continue this for a further 3 days

after your appointment. Due to the nature of

the procedure, the trauma can trigger an

outbreak, so it is advised to take an antiviral

to help minimize or prevent this from

occurring.

For eyeliner, please avoid any lash growth

serums for at least 2 months prior to your

booking.

  • What do I need to do to prepare for my upcoming appointment?

You will be asked to avoid alcohol and

caffeine at least 24 hours before your

appointment. This is due to acting as a blood

thinner and stimulant, which can lead to

sensitivity, and excessive bleeding may

occur.

Should I avoid anything after my treatment?

After getting your enhancement done, please

follow your given aftercare. This can vary due

to the area you have had done and adjusted

due to your lifestyle, skin type, skin condition,

or personal circumstances.

But the general guideline is to avoid the

makeup directly on the area that has been

treated, gym, sauna, steam room, swimming,

or any activities that cause heat or sweating

for at least 7 days.

After this, you will continue to go through the

healing phases, which will be explained in

detail at your consultation and appointment.

  • How long does the treatment take?

Permanent makeup is a layered treatment.

Your treatment is not complete if you fail to

book or attend your complimentary perfecting

session. Some people may need additional

sessions, and this will incur additional fees

and will be discussed before your treatment

begins.

The actual appointment can vary between

1.5 hours to 3 hours per area per session. So

please allow enough time to allow me to give

you the best results.

  • How long should I wait between sessions?

You must wait a minimum of 6 weeks

between each session. And a maximum of 8

weeks unless advised by Selena. This allows

for skin under the surface to fully heal without

causing unnecessary trauma. Although you

may think the skin is healed after a few

weeks, it is important to note that the skin

goes through cycles and processes to heal.

We can not disrupt this process for the best

healed results. If you fail to attend your

perfecting session, your treatment will be

deemed incomplete.

It is your responsibility to follow the aftercare

given as this will affect your healed results.

  • What does the healing process look like?

The first 2-3 days, the enhancement will look

its darkest. The pigment is currently on the

surface of the skin as well as under the

surface of the skin. After this, the skin will

start to dry and flake off, as the skin is

starting to renew and naturally exfoliate

away. The new skin will start to show through

and mask the pigment in the skin. Often,

making the colour look super light and

patchy, and sometimes it looks like it has

disappeared. (The ghosting phase)

This can take up to 4-6 weeks before the true

healed colour will settle and reappear. This is

when you come back, and we reasses,

adjust, and tweak anything that needs

tweaking.

  • I've had previous work done. Can I get them redone with you?

This depends on the work you have, and if

your happy with the current shape and style?

Some work can not be worked over due to

over saturation, the style you are requesting

may not be suitable, or simply because you

may need removal before any new work can

be done. I always recommend we carry out a

video or in person consultation before

booking an appointment so we can discuss

your options.

Antiwrinkle Injections:

  • Is it safe?

Provided you’ve had a full consultation with a medical professional and your treatment is being administered by a qualified professional (ideally a medical professional) you should have no particular problems with using Botox.

  • What are the side effects?

Side effects are generally minimal. You can resume normal activities straight after treatment.  At most clients experience some mild swelling and bruising which subsides after a few days or so.

  • Who should avoid having Botox?

Pregnant women or breast feeding mothers

Patients with certain conditions affecting the connections between nerves and muscles (such as Myaesthenia Gravis and Eaton-Lambert Syndrome)

People with a previous allergic reaction to botulinum toxin, or with allergies to egg or human albumin. People taking aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as chlarithromycin, gentamicin etc.) Caution should be exercised in any patients taking blood-thinning medication such as Warfarin, Rivaroxaban and Clopidogrel, simply due to the possibility of severe bruising.

When should I begin treatments?

  • When will I see effects after treatment?

Effects may take up to 2 weeks post treatment to fully show, though this can be sooner.  Re-treatment is usually at least every 3 months, this varies from person to person ranging from 2 to 5 months on average.

Dermal Fillers

  • When can I expect to see results after treatment?

The effects of dermal are noticeable immediately after the procedure. These effects are long lasting, non-permanent and reversible. Generally most clients return for a follow up treatment approximately every 6-12 months.

  • Are there any side effects?

Most reactions are generally minimal and temporary. You should expect some swelling and you may have some slight bruising however these reactions are expected to subside within a couple of days.

  • What happens during treatment?

Prior to treatment we remove any make up and cleanse the area to be treated. We use a topical anesthetic on the area which we will inject. The product is placed using a cannula which helps to keep swelling and bruising to a minimum. Discomfort during the treatment should be minimal. However, if you are sensitive we can use a local anesthetic although in most cases this is not necessary.

Fat Dissolving:

  • When can I expect to see results after treatment?

Within the first 21 days the minimum.

  • Who cannot have this treatment?

It's not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or for those with an endocrine pathological condition.

  • Are there any side effects?

Swelling and bruising to a minimum. Discomfort during the treatment should be minimal. However,

  • What happens during treatment?

Profhilo is injected just under the skin using very fine needles in pre-determined points. It is relativley painless and there is usually no need for topical pain relief creams prior to treatment. The treatment itself is very quick, taking only about 10 minutes. On the face only five injection points are necessary on each side of the face to give maximum results.

Skin Boosters:

  • What do skin boosters do?

Skin Boosters increase the levels of hydration in the skin and stimulate the production of collagen,  improving fine lines and wrinkles, producing firmer and younger looking skin.

  • When can I expect to see results after treatment?

Within  3 – 4 weeks . Skin boosters will have an initial course of 2 - 3 sessions dependent on the product chosen and its associated protocol or other factors such as skin quality and client needs. Once this initial course is complete, a maintenance dose is usually given around once a year.

  • What is the difference between skin boosters and dermal fillers?

The main difference between skin boosters and dermal fillers is lift and longevity. Skin boosters add hydration, glow and restore elastin while dermal fillers add volume and soften lines to restore a more youthful appearance.  Both treatments use key ingredient of hyaluronic acid and are injected under the skin using a needle. Dermal fillers can last anywhere from 9 to 12 months while Skin boosters will last up to 6 months and will need more regular maintenance.

  • Who cannot have this treatment?

Profhilo and other skin boosters are suitable for most people who would benefit from a collagen and elastin boost as well as their skin hydration properties. For Profhilo particularly, those aged between 30-55 tend to see the best results

  • What should I do to prepare for a lash lift?

Please ensure if you wear contact lenses you

remove this before your appointment starts.

You are welcome to put them back on after

your appointment.

  • What aftercare do I need to follow for a lash lift?

Avoid touching, getting them wet, putting

mascara on for at least 24 hours to allow for

thenlashes to fully settle. Notbfollowing

aftercare advice may affect how long your

lash lift may last. On average a lash lift

should last 4-6 weeks, sometimes longer.

It is important to get patch tested if you have

any sensitivities. You will be required to carry

out a patch test 48 hours before your
